After School Fun at new Shaker & Company Bar

Finally there is somewhere in Euston to limp to after a long day at work that isn’t a smelly, floral-carpeted pub! This new bar encourages refined drinking, is run by graduates of the Shaker & Co. bar school (promising some fine cocktails), and is ridiculously on trend in its pairing of the traditional with the modern in both its decor, and its drinks menu.

Shaker & Company’s style of mixing the old with the new -creating new, experimental cocktails and serving them using traditional methods, is reflected in the design of the bar. An American saloon bar with a twist, the sandblasted timber, crimson tiles and exposed brick, as well as its vintage shakers are all in contrast to the bespoke, demijohn light fittings and the toilets that were inspired by the London Underground. The guys behind the design at Space Design clearly channelled the influence Mad Men has had on cocktail culture and the consequential fashion of drinking spirits.

Such concise design went into the devising of the cocktail list also. The 12 original and adventurous cocktails are said to have been inspired by the renowned ‘father of mixology’ Professor Jerry Thomas, amongst other cocktail heroes from the 19th Century.

Alongside the mix of eclectic cocktails, the bar offers a mixture of ‘soul food’ – imagine popcorn crayfish, jambalaya and shredded pork ‘n’ beans. And as if that were not enough to encourage you there, the bar also hosts live bands to act as their soundtrack. It is too cool.

A place where you can keep your tie on after work and feel appropriately dressed, or take it off, whip it around your head and feel equally at ease, the new Shaker & Company bar will most definitely become our new haunt.

You can find the bar at:

119 Hampstead Road, NW1 3EE
