Bacanal IS the Future

Partying in the evening is so last year and who can be bothered to just ‘do lunch’? Here’s an idea, ever thought about brunch? Yeah, brunch – and not just any type of breakfast/lunch, but a big New York style brunch, that requires you to party from midday. We at BT, have a sneaking suspicion that this is about to become a new London craze…

Bacanal are the ones to look out for. Starting in March 2010, their focus has been on providing an ‘experience that combines epicurean food, euphoric energy and entertainment and a distinguished clientele in a Champagne brunch setting.’

The Collection restaurant on Brompton Road is where Bacanal originally established themselves as a brand but they have been known to relocate to different trendy venues, hosting brunches at The Supperclub in Notting Hill, The Box Nightclub in Soho and Nozomi in Beauchamps place.

There’s nothing more than these avant garde, daytime debauched events love than atheme, and such themes have ranged from Apres Ski to the roaring 1920s, Las Vegas to simple colour themes – and believe us when we tell you, the crowd go all out.

On hearing about this curious event, where it is deemed acceptable to drink and dance in the middle of the day, BT decided to get involved and see if the fantastic rumours were true.

And fantastic, it was.

On arrival, we were handed a Champagne cocktail  (not something we were likely to complain about) and shown to our table before being handed the brunch menu to browse.

The set menu consisted of beef sliders – beautifully presented on the plate, mini seabass fillets, and succulent, well seasoned chicken legs. We only hoped the party to follow would be as good as the food.

We ate, we schmoozed and we boozed, and suddenly it was 3pm and time to party. (Because apparently it’s now acceptable to party from 3pm onwards – hurrah!) Hot female performers began shaking their stuff on stage; the DJ started blazing out some hypnotic house music for the beautiful crowd to throw their hands up in the air to; bongo players appeared from God knows where, and someone even started spraying champagne (we hoped). The majority of people had adhered to the Apres Ski theme and those who hadn’t were clearly gutted.  A truly wild afternoon, it was a fabulous experience to be a part of.

The next “brunch” (definitely worth the adverted commas) is taking place on the 18thFebruary at The Collection (which has just be refurbished by interior guru Tom Dixon) with the Rio Carnival acting as the theme. Think glitter, feathers, sequins, body paint, bikinis, swimsuits and bright colours. We’ll be there with bells on. Literally.

Tickets for the post brunch festivities (if you are not feeling peckish or simply just want to head straight to the party) are priced at £20, and to book a table for brunch, check out their website.

We think it’s time to join the Brunch Bunch.
