Brick Lane: what is it good for? Bagels and curry! Not just any bagels and curry though, but late-night-feed-your-drunk-munchies bagels and curry. The countless chefs working day in and day out on this well-known ‘lane’ have been fueling your curry obsessions for who-knows how long now, and they rarely receive the recognition they deserve. That’s about to change though, as many of these chefs are to be featured in a photographic exhibition at the Rich Mix Arts Centre.
Opening to the public on Friday 24 February, and running through Thursday 29 March, Rich Mix will host this exhibition, displaying the portraits previously published by the East End culture blog. The photographs, which were taken by the eccentric street photographer Jeremy Freedman, will be accompanied by the personal narratives of the featured chefs.
There will also be an opening night party on Thursday 23 February, from 6pm-8pm. In addition to the photographs, the featured chefs will be offering their signature dishes to the guests. However, this party is invitation only, so email your details to pippa.murray@richmix.org.uk to rsvp.
So, if you’ve ever wanted to put a face to the mastermind behind your favorite Brick Lane Indian food, stop by the Rich Mix Arts Centre. Doors open at 10am, and best of all, there’s no entry fee. Also, if you’re looking to win a free “curry-tastic” meal for 4, enter Rich Mix’s online photo competition. Tweet a picture of your favorite Brick Lane curry dish to @richmixlondon, or email it to info@richmix.org.uk. The winner will be chosen at opening night of the exhibition.
Rich Mix Arts Centre is located at 35-47 Bethnal Green Road, London, E1 6LA. For more information on the event, visit the website.
