Always more than just any restaurant, Noma’s products can be eaten, worn, and now, read. The restaurant voted ‘the best restaurant in the world’ in 2010 and 2011 has now entered the world of publishing with a brand new guidebook to its home city of Copenhagen in conjunction with Momondo. In celebration of this, two economy class seats to Copenhagen for a weekend in the city, along with accommodation at the four-star Hotel Nyhaven 71, are up for grabs now.
In the 21st century, expanding outside of your original market is not unheard of. Musicians and sports stars do it all the time with calendar tie-ins, TV appearances, maybe bring out a fragrance. Noma have already expanded into the clothing market – although perhaps accidentally. During their trip to London in 2010, during which time they picked up ‘the best restaurant in the world’ award – as you do – their humble and much-loved dishwasher, Alieu, was unable to make the journey due to visa complications. In his honour, all members of the team were adorned in Alieu face t-shirts during the ceremony.
We’d like to see this become a trend in honesty. Pinafores with the face of the ‘Saturday girl’ at the local delicatessen, or even a waistcoat with the face of the potsman at the Wenlock Arms (yes potsman, not postman) would prove sartorial hits amongst us. Look out for BT-branded novelty springy Nandos employees hats. They would be sold à la lucky dip though so you’d never know whose face would be on the end of the springs. 2012 Christmas best seller, we have you in the bag…
Aaaaaaanyway, the guidebook uses the passion and innovative insight of Noma’s international staff to give a view of the city from a non-native angle. With hidden treasures abound, it must be the perfect way to discover parts of a city far away from the beaten tourist track.
Just remember to go to Noma if you go to Copenhagen. We wouldn’t be worth our salt if we didn’t at least tip you off about that one!
