Paying Homage to Robbie Burns

The 25th of January was the date to celebrate Burns Night and I owed it to myself to pick the best place to go to pay homage to Robbie Burns. So where did I go?  My invitation to this sell-out exclusive event was just the thing I needed to stick the middle finger up to the January blues.

Upon our arrival at 8.30pm, we were welcomed by a packed room full smiley faces, half of which were all in traditional Scottish attire – kilts and all. At the bar (open bar, might I add) we had a choice of whisky based cocktails which were free for the taking, before we were escorted to our dining table with designated seats.

The 3 course traditional meal was divine, starting with highland delights and yes, haggis, of course, was the main dish and was absolutely delicious, melt in your mouth good. And although I’m not usually a sweet tooth kinda girl, it took me just seconds to polish off the dessert. Every dish was perfectly paired with a different whisky and (lightweight that I am) was just the right amount needed to accompany the meal.

Poetry, dance, merriment and entertainment were all words attached to the night and boy, was it a night very difficult to forget. Even more so when (after being given a bit of a nudge) everyone began hitting the dance floor, and Ceilidh dancing to the DJ’s sweet music.

I guess you are probably thinking where is this place, genius enough to hold such a decadent night? It’s no secret, let me tell you. It’s Vinopolis in London Bridge, renowned for their wine tastings and tours. Who’d have thunk?

The famous Vinopolis wine tour showcases over 120 wines from all over the world from the traditional wine making regions such as France and New Zealand, to lesser known regions such as Uruguay. The tour also includes the luxurious Nicolas Feuillatte champagne bar, the Bombay Sapphire Blue Room and the Chivas Whisky Room.

Guests are welcome to try the 15 minute ‘How to Taste Wine’ session before they begin one of the four self-guided packages which range in price, from £22.50 to £40 per person.

Whether you want to try something new, or are simply a practising alcoholic – you know where to go. Oh, but remember, drink responsibly.
