Ever been to East Asia and wandered the street-food markets, sampling the exotic foreign flavours and gorging on rich, authentic foods? Nor have we. And now we don’t even have to. The newly opened East Street, situated in Fitzrovia, offers you the chance to travel across East Asia by plate, at pocket-friendly prices.
Brought to you by the two guys responsible for six other restaurants peppered around England, Nick Jeffrey and David Fox, East Street’s healthy, high quality food features steaming noodle dishes, sizzling stir-fries, and slow cooked curries, to name a few.
On entering the restaurant, you’d be forgiven for briefly forgetting you were still in London as the back-lit “local” street signs hanging from the ceiling and colourful furnishings immediately catch your eye. Back in the room- just as it is in East Asia, each dish is made with only the freshest of market produce and by those with the expertise to cook it. You can enjoy an expertly made Idonesian Nasi Goreng – spicy wok-fried rice with chicken, shiitake mushroom, chili, lime leaves and onion flakes, or go north and try a Nua Yang Manao from Thailand – delicious strips of rare grilled rump steak with fresh mint.
It would be uncharacteristic of us not to mention that there is also a range of East Asian inspired drinks available too, with cocktails including a ‘Saigon Negroni’, hot drinks including Vietnamese coffee served in the traditional style, and a variety of beers such as Laos brew ‘Beer Lao’.
Each item on the menu is accompanied by details of its country of origin, so you can map out your own gastronomic adventure across East Asia – without ever leaving London.
