After wandering around St James’, lost on a cold Saturday in February, we are relieved to finally stumble across the warmth and comfort of the Caxton Grill, located on the ground floor of St Ermin’s luxurious 4 star hotel. Aside from being away from the wintery wind, we are looking forward to tasting Chef Hus Vedat’s cuisine, highly representative of the “Field to Fork” movement which promotes locally-grown and high quality produce, at this newly refurbished venue. Me: “Hi, we’re here from Blue Tomato”. Waitress: “Welcome, would you like to order some drinks”. Me: “Certainly, I’d love to”. Waitress: “Here’s a drinks menu…wines are here…cocktails here…and we have Singha and Chang from Thailand also”. Me: “Oh, are they your fellow waitresses?” Waitress: (Confused silence) Me: “You said Singha and Chang; I knew they were brands of beer, but I’m funny. So funny in fact that I am now having to explain the joke that I just made about your obvious reference to the beer list that I wittily implied were the names of your colleagues”! 16″ West Brasserie

Though I have not counted for myself, so obviously could not possibly be sure, 16″ West Brasserie is named as such due to its meticulously exact location – sixteen seconds from the Greenwich Meridian line. Only opening July of last year, this new kid on the block is a particularly welcome addition to Greenwich and so perfectly suited to the scene that it’s difficult to understand why it has only just come about. CCC occupies a space in the reception of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Blackfriars. Named in honour of the Chinese National Cricket team, the restaurant has now been open since 2009 and promises a mouth watering range of Sichuan delicacies (with the obligatory twist).
